Further to the last update from Gazprom, I’m pleased to share this information with you regarding the current status of Gazprom Energy and its associated control.
The Gazprom Germania Group - made up of Berlin-based Gazprom Germania GmbH and its subsidiaries, including Gazprom Marketing & Trading Retail Ltd (Gazprom Energy) - is now under the de facto control of the German government.
On 4 April 2022, Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) appointed the Bundesnetzagentur (BNetzA), an independent German regulatory authority, as fiduciary for the Gazprom Germania Group (click here to read the press release). As such, I’m now very pleased to share this letter of comfort that the BNetzA has published on its website to inform and reassure the Gazprom Germania Group’s business partners, banks, service providers and customers.
In summary, the letter highlights the criticality of the services which Gazprom Germania
GmbH and its subsidiaries provide to the stability and security of the gas supply sector across Europe and requests that banks, service providers and business partners “continue their business relations with these companies in the usual manner and without additional restrictions or changes”.
I hope this letter clarifies the situation and alleviates any immediate concerns you or our customers may have regarding Gazprom Energy’s status and stability.
We’re working on changing the Gazprom Energy name and removing all Gazprom trademarks from our communications and branding to cement the fact that we are not controlled by the Russian Gazprom group. Our parent company, Gazprom Marketing & Trading, is doing the same. I hope this also provides you with the reassurance you need to continue working with us / or start working with us again.
