Electricity Markets hit new highs this morning following news that cracks have been detected in pipes at Frances Civaux nuclear reactor caused by corrosion.
Three other plants using similar technology will now need to be investigated for safety, impacting 13% of Frances generation capacity as we move into the peak winter months. The knock-on effect of this has seen the January and February baseload contracts climb beyond £500MWH as the outage is expected to last several weeks. The forward curve has also lifted adding to the pressure already present in the industry.
